Mud Dauber 23
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 23 ft 1.5 in outboard beach and cargo boat by Sam Devlin, built stitch and glue. It is high-sided, with a bow platform whose removable boards form a ramp, so heavy gear, even a small tractor or sawmill, can be unloaded onto a beach. Twin bilge keels and a deep centerline keel carry sacrificial UHMW plastic shoes and both decks are self-bailing. Beam is 8 ft 7 in, draft 1 ft and displacement 4,000 lb. The designer suggests one 90 to 115 hp outboard or a pair of 60 to 70 hp.
Study and full construction plans are sold. It is a big, heavily built open boat. As a rule of thumb, budget 800 to 1,400 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
