Alexa’s Rocket 15

A 15 ft 6 in performance sailing dinghy by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, in the style of Australian planing dinghies such as the Javelin but with two chines a side and a flat bottom panel to plane sooner. The bare hull is designed at 140 lb and carries 140 sq ft of sail, with trapezes and a retractable spinnaker pole as options. Crew is two racing or four cruising.
Stitch and glue plywood with epoxy and glass, stiffened by a web of frames and stringers. No woodworking skill is assumed, though it is more involved than the open dinghies. The designer's figure is about 40 hours for hull and deck before paint plus 50 to 100 hours to finish. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
