Crescent
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Crescent is a family day sailer by C. T. Allen for small lakes, rivers and bays: 15 1/2 ft long, 67 in beam, 450 lb, 135 sq ft of sail and room for four adults. She is an open vee-bottom centerboarder with no cabin, and the article claims a 4 mph breeze is enough to get her moving.
Construction is 3/8 in exterior plywood over a wooden framework, and the cutaway drawing shows the transom knee, bulkhead, rub strips, sheet traveler and deck battens. The centerboard keeps the draft shallow so she can be beached. The scan runs to fourteen pages, one of the fuller sets in the archive, and is free to download.
What building a Crescent actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
