Outrigger Junior
Designed by Chesapeake Light Craft
A 15 ft 5 in sailing outrigger canoe from Chesapeake Light Craft, drawn in 2003 for a proposed youth sailing program and updated when two prototypes were launched in 2013. CLC calls it a Tahitian outrigger: an asymmetrical canoe with a single float that tacks conventionally and does not shunt like a proa. A 165 sq ft lateen sail drives a boat weighing 260 lb with a 450 lb payload and a 12 ft overall beam.
Sold as plans with full-size patterns or as a staged Pro-Kit for experienced wood-epoxy builders. CLC says it is less work than a catamaran of the same size but has a high parts count, and its current estimate is 250 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Outrigger Junior actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
