A 23 ft 2 in offshore center console by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, styled on the Carolina sportfishing boats with a wide flared bow, fine entry, tumblehome transom and a tracking skeg. Deadrise is 45 degrees at the cutwater easing to 17 at the transom. Beam is 8 ft 6 in, the stripped hull weighs about 1,600 lb, and power tops out at 250 hp single or 280 hp twin.
Plywood cored composite built stitch and glue on a simple jig. The flare and tumblehome call for some unusual cuts, and the designer advises against it as a first boat. The designer's figure is 120 hours for the hull and 300 to 400 for a finished boat. Real hours from logged builds are below.
