Duck Skiff 15
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 15 ft 6 in duck hunting skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, drawn to cross open water with two or more hunters and a heavy load of gear. Beam is 5 ft 8 in, draft 6 in, hull weight about 265 lb, and it takes 25 hp with a 40 hp maximum. The plans cover two sterns, a plain transom and a version with sponsons.
Stitch and glue: quarter-inch plywood panels cut from full-size patterns are wrapped around a mid frame and stitched, with no jig required. The designer says a first-time builder can do it. The designer's figure is under 40 hours to assemble the hull and 80 hours at most for a show finish. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Duck Skiff 15 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
