Jon Boat / Garvey 15
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 15 ft 6 in vee-hulled garvey by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the GV15. It began as an old plywood-on-frame plan reworked for stitch and glue with a layout in the spirit of the early Boston Whaler. At 7 ft beam it is a roomy, stable platform for family outings and fishing in protected water. Hull weight is about 500 lb, power 25 to 50 hp.
A plywood-cored epoxy and glass composite with no scarfing and full-size frame patterns. The designer says it can be a first project, though prior experience saves time, and gives 80 hours for the hull and 200 hours or more finished. Budget 200 to 400. Real hours from logged builds are below.
