Extreme Flats 22
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 22 ft 1 in tunnel-hull flats boat by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, the big brother of the Extreme Flats 20, asked for by fishing guides who wanted more room. It is framed and glassed more heavily for hard use and more power, 70 to 115 hp on a bracket, yet draws only 4 in at a 3,000 lb displacement. Beam is 8 ft.
Epoxy, fiberglass and plywood composite over molds set on strongbacks, with foam sandwich specifications on request. The designer says anyone who has completed a small jig-built boat such as the FS12 can build it. The designer's figure is 80 hours for the hull shell and 100 to 200 for a finished boat.
