Godzilla 22
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 22 ft harbor tug in miniature from Sam Devlin, built stitch and glue. It was drawn for an owner who wanted a working push-boat well under the 26 ft length at which a tug needs a licensed master. Beam is 8 ft 1 in, draft 2 ft 6 in and displacement 3,000 lb, with a small pilothouse, a fantail stern and spartan day accommodation. The prototype runs a single-cylinder Sabb diesel with a feathering propeller and makes about 6 knots.
Study and full construction plans are available. The inboard diesel installation, pilothouse and fantail make this a project for someone with some building experience. As a rule of thumb, budget 1,200 to 2,000 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Godzilla 22 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
