Fast Skiff 12
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 12 ft vee-bottom planing skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, the planing version of the Flat Skiff 12. Beam is 56 in, hull weight about 160 lb, and the USCG style rating is three people or 650 lb with 5 to 15 hp. The designer presents it as a small-scale introduction to the composite methods used on the larger Bateau powerboats.
A true plywood cored composite hull, stitch and glue, set up on a jig made from a pair of 2x4s and two sawhorses. It is aimed squarely at first-time builders. The designer's figure is 20 hours for the hull and 40 or more for a finished boat. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Fast Skiff 12 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
