Fast Skiff 19

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 19 ft 6 in seagoing skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, the larger version of the FS17 and close in its lines to the Simmons Sea Skiff, though without that boat's open transom. Deadrise runs from 25 degrees at the cutwater to almost none at the transom, giving a smooth passage from displacement to planing speed. Beam is 8 ft, hull weight about 625 lb, power 50 to 115 hp.

Stitch and glue composite planked over frames on a jig of two 2x6s, then glassed outside and inside; an all-foam build is an option. The designer's figure is about 70 hours to get the hull ready for sanding and paint, so budget 200 to 350 hours in all. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
