Mangusta 20

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 19 ft 6 in deep-vee sport boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau / Boat Builder Central, plan MG20. The 18 degree hull is drawn for quick acceleration with single or twin outboards or a stern drive, up to 250 hp, and carries 80 gallons of fuel. Much of the performance comes from light weight: the composite hull is about 875 lb, less than a comparable production fiberglass boat.

Assembled stitch and glue but engineered as a true sandwich, with plywood as the core between layers of directional glass, and frames, sole and deck all structural. The designer's figure is 200 hours for hull and deck plus 150 for fairing, paint and rigging. Budget 400 to 700. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
