Garvey 18

A 17 ft 5 in flat-bottom jon boat garvey by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, a much beamier development of the GF16 drawn to be simple and sturdy. Beam is 7 ft 1 in and hull weight about 475 lb. The basic version has plain benches, a casting deck and a tiller outboard up to 25 hp; adding a sole and center console gives a self-bailing cockpit and takes 40 hp.

Stitch and glue, with the bottom in particular a true plywood cored composite sandwich. The designer says a first-time builder can put it together fast. The study plan gives 25 hours for the hull and 60 or more for a finished boat, which fits the no-frills version. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
