GulfStream 28
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 28 ft offshore center console by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, long, light and fairly narrow at 8 ft 2 in, drawn for economy and seaworthiness at moderate planing speeds of about 20 knots. Deadrise goes from 52 degrees at the cutwater to 8 at the transom. Design displacement is 5,000 lb, fuel 85 to 120 gallons, power 125 to 300 hp on outboards. The GS28 X plan set adds the options.
Plywood cored epoxy composite built upside down on a jig of frames, transom and MDF molds. The designer says anyone who has finished a small jig-built boat can build it given the time. The designer's figure is 180 hours for the hull shell and 400 to 600 for a finished boat. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a GulfStream 28 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
