Jon Boat / Garvey 13
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 13 ft vee-bottomed garvey by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the GV13. It was inspired by the classic 13 ft Boston Whaler but weighs about 170 lb against the Whaler's 600, so it runs faster on less power and carries more. The hull evolved from the GV11 with an easier-bending bow, and the plans include a small side console. Recommended power is 25 hp.
A plywood-cored epoxy and glass composite put together stitch and glue, with every part dimensioned on the plans and no scarfing. The designer says no woodworking skills are needed and gives 50 hours for the hull and 100 hours or more finished. Budget 100 to 200 hours.
