Solo Flats Skiff (FS13)
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 13 ft one-person flats fishing skiff by Jacques Mertens for Bateau. Only 38 in wide and about 85 lb, it floats in 2.5 in of water and can be poled, paddled standing with a SUP paddle or seated with a canoe paddle, or pushed by a trolling motor or an outboard of up to 5 hp. Foam under the sole makes it unsinkable.
The okoume plywood panels fold around the frames and transom origami style and the hull is fully glassed in epoxy. The designer says a first-time builder can do it, and a complete precut kit is sold. Designer's figure: 40 hours for the hull shell. Budget 60 to 110 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Solo Flats Skiff (FS13) actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
