Phantom 22
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 21 ft 10 in bay boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau developed from the Phantom flats skiffs. It keeps their shallow hull, drawing 8 in, but adds freeboard, an 8 ft 6 in beam and a self-bailing cockpit more than 20 in deep. The layout is a center console with a rear bench and a forward casting deck. Hull weight is about 1,200 lb, power is 90 to 125 hp, and the designer rates it for 7 people or 2,000 lb.
It is a stitch and glue plywood shell glassed on both sides, with no lofting, beveling or scarfing. The designer quotes 80 hours for the basic hull and deck plus 150 to 250 for finishing; budget 250 to 400 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
