A 13 ft 4 in recreational rowboat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, drawn purely for oars with no compromise toward sail or power, although a 2 hp outboard is allowed. It is not a sculling shell: there are no outriggers, initial stability is good and it can carry passengers. Beam is 4 ft 4 in. Two builds are offered, a standard boat of about 100 lb and a light version of about 65 lb in 4 mm marine plywood.
Stitch and glue with simple butt blocks instead of scarfs, so no woodworking skills or special tools are needed. The designer's average for the hull is 40 hours; budget 60 to 110 finished. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
