Semi Dory 11

An 11 ft flat-bottomed dory-type dinghy by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, for oars, sail or a 2 hp outboard. The designer calls it a good general-purpose little boat with generous freeboard, able to carry three as a tender, though best sailed with two. It can be rigged with a 45 sq ft sprit sail or a marconi rig using a sailboard sail. Beam is 4 ft and designed weight 85 lb.

The flat bottom makes this a very easy stitch and glue hull: butt blocks instead of scarfs, no woodworking skills, no special tools. A sound first boat. The designer's average for the hull is 25 hours; budget 40 to 80 hours with rig and paint. Real hours from logged builds are below.
