PT Spear Dinghy
Designed by Russell Brown
An 11 ft rowing and sailing dinghy, the one-piece version of the PT 11 nesting dinghy from Russell Brown's PT Watercraft, sold as a kit by Chesapeake Light Craft. Named for its arrow-shaped foredeck, it has fewer parts than the PT 11, a full-width stern seat, buoyancy compartments at both ends and a watertight hatch under the foredeck. Specs match the PT 11: 50 in beam, about 90 lb, 518 lb payload and a 54 sq ft sail, with the same options.
CLC lists it as intermediate, a careful epoxy-and-plywood kit build guided by a thorough manual, and estimates 200 hours. Budget 180 to 280 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a PT Spear Dinghy actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
