Blekingseka no. 1
Designed by Bertil Andersson
This was Bertil Andersson's first survey, taken in 1966 from a working boat that had probably been built in the 1890s by Ola Jonasson, known locally as Olle Byggare, at Truseryd in Blekinge. She fished close inshore, was used for the last time in the spring of 1966, hauled out, and then broken up completely by a storm in January 1976. The drawing is all that is left of her.
The Blekingseka is the home type of Blekinge, the small province on Sweden's south-east coast: an open rowing and sailing skiff (eka simply means a small open boat) built entirely of oak, with a few wide strakes, fairly light frames and a characteristic five-sided transom perched on top of the sternpost. This set is 4.6 m by 1.43 m on three sheets at 1:10, a sail plan, a construction drawing and a frame drawing. The sail shown is the one this boat actually carried, and Andersson notes it is too big for her.
What building a Blekingseka no. 1 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
