Blekingseka no. 17
Designed by Bertil Andersson
The oldest boat among the Blekingseka plans, built around 1885 by Gunnar Olsson on the island of Tjärö and still there to be measured in September 1980. She is oak in every part, 4.31 m long and 1.55 m in the beam, a small inshore eka from the period when the type had Blekinge almost to itself.
In that century the larger ekor went far offshore after herring under an asymmetric square sail, while the small ones like this were rowed or set a spritsail. The drawing gives three sheets at 1:10, construction, frames and lines, and no rig. For anyone interested in how the type looked before engines arrived and changed the sterns and the scantlings, this is the earliest example in the collection.
What building a Blekingseka no. 17 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
