Snipa no. 8
Designed by Bertil Andersson
Christian Christiansson of Arild in the Kullabygden district of north-west Skåne built this small snipa; the site gives no date. Bertil Andersson measured her in October 1979, at 4.875 m by 1.53 m.
Snipa is a name often stretched to cover any double-ender, but Andersson reserves it for the older open boats that are slim in their lines and sharp at both bow and stern, light to row and descended from Viking-age boats. The stems still rise a little above the sheer, purely because it looks right. This set gives three 1:10 sheets, construction, frames and lines, with no sail plan, so she is drawn as a hull to be rowed or rigged at the builder's discretion.
What building a Snipa no. 8 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
