Blue Moon
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Listed by the archive as Weekender, the plan inside is Blue Moon, a 16 ft gaff-rigged pocket cruiser. The article claims she could be built complete with sails and fittings for about $500 at winter 1972 to 1973 prices, and still sleep two on 6 ft 4 in berths with sitting headroom and space for a chemical toilet and small stove.
She is built from clear fir framing and exterior plywood with fiberglass cloth and resin, and has a centerboard in a plywood case. The lines are laid down full size on a floor of at least 12 by 20 ft, measured to the outside of the framing. Ordinary hand tools plus a power saw, band saw and drill are enough. The article reports good speed in 10 to 15 mph winds.
What building a Blue Moon actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
