Core Sound 15
Designed by Graham Byrnes
A 15 ft 2 in cat ketch daysailer by Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs, released in late 2003 as the smallest of the Core Sound series. Stitch and glue plywood, 300 to 350 lb, 100 sq ft of sail on two free-standing masts, a draft of 7 in with the board up and space for up to five adults. B&B sells plans, digital plans and a made-to-order CNC kit, and has published a 21 part video series on building one.
The hull is wired flat and unfolded with B&B's butterfly method, so no strongback is required and a careful first-timer can manage it. Budget 350 to 600 hours as a rule of thumb, less with the kit. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Core Sound 15 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
