Nancy's China DC 15
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 15 ft 2 in open daysailer by Sam Devlin of Devlin Designing Boat Builders, the cabin sloop Nancy's China reworked as an open boat with an electric auxiliary built into the rudder. Stitch and glue plywood, a 124 sq ft fractional sloop rig and a daggerboard drawing 10 in when raised. Two deep-cycle batteries feed a 43 lb thrust motor for roughly 14 hours at 4 knots and count toward the 285 lb of ballast. A removable bowsprit for a 160 sq ft asymmetrical spinnaker is optional.
A manageable stitch and glue hull, with the spars, daggerboard case and electrical installation adding time that suits a builder with some experience. As a rule of thumb, budget 400 to 700 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
