Egret 15
Designed by Sam Devlin
Sam Devlin's first design, from 1978: a 15 ft 3 in open sail-and-oar boat that one person can handle. She is stiff and steady in a breeze, rows easily when the wind fails, and can be built with a motor well. The hull weighs about 280 lb, displaces 850 lb and draws 9.5 in with the board up, 32 in down. Plans carry dual measurements, and a CNC-cut kit is sold.
Stitch and glue, the method Devlin was working out when he built the first one. A sailing rig and centreboard add work, but she is a fair first project for a patient builder. Budget 300 to 500 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
