40 ft Skipjack
Designed by Jay R. Benford
A 40 ft design from Jay Benford's catalog, drawn for plywood or steel chine construction, so the same hull can be built in whichever suits the shop. One of the cruising sail designs, the part of the catalog that dominated the office for years and fills Cruising Designs.
Benford publishes a displacement of 18,400/26,000 lb in coastal cruising trim, which is tanks full with the crew and their stores aboard rather than a shipping weight. Plans are sold to owner-builders, and study plans are sold separately for anyone wanting to look before committing.
What building a 40 ft Skipjack actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
