Samoa 28
Designed by Roberto Barros
The Samoa 28 is a light displacement cruiser racer of 8.80 m, built by strip planking a sandwich hull, a method B&G chose because novices find it easier than it sounds and the result is light and stiff. With a generous rig of 35.3 square metres, a 3,000 kg displacement and an efficient bulb fin keel, the designers expect her to hold her own in club racing.
The deck is arranged for easy handling and the mast is stout enough to do without running backstays. Two keel depths are drawn, 1.50 m for cruising and 1.70 m for racing, carrying 1,075 kg of ballast. Below there is 1.85 m of headroom, 340 litres of water and 100 of diesel for a 14 hp auxiliary. The design is offered to professional yards and amateur builders alike.
What building a Samoa 28 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
