Lion 870
Designed by Unik Yachts
The Lion 870 extends the Lion approach to a family cruiser of 8.7 m by 3 m. It is built from a set of CNC cut parts, and Unik Yachts' stated aim for the series is a properly equipped yacht costing about the same as a small car. Unlike the smaller boats she has a fixed ballast keel, which the designer chose for stability and safety and because it makes the build simpler.
The accommodation includes a separate two berth aft cabin, a two berth forward cabin, a large saloon, a galley with sink and gas stove, and a heads. Published figures give 2.9 tonnes displacement, 650 kg of ballast, 40 square metres of sail and a draft of 1.8 m, with 1.2 m also listed. The demonstration drawings show the main structure, the sail plan and the nesting of parts on 1220 by 2440 mm plywood sheets.
What building a Lion 870 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
