Spray 28
Designed by Bruce Roberts-Goodson
A compact offshore cruiser, 28 ft on deck with a 10 ft 6 in beam and a heavy displacement of about 13,600 lb, carrying 4,000 lb of ballast and a 20 hp auxiliary. Bruce Roberts-Goodson owned one himself, named K*I*S*S, and recommends the design from that experience; he puts the number sailing at over five hundred.
The hull is multi-chine and can be built in steel, aluminium or wood and epoxy. The Bermudan cutter rig is standard and a junk rig is included with the plans. Owners' letters on the designer's pages include an aluminium boat launched in Mexico that logged some 2,500 miles in the Sea of Cortez in its first two years, its builder reporting her comfortable in rough conditions and happiest in 15 to 20 knots.
What building a Spray 28 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
