18' Jolle
Designed by Boatkits
A 5.48 m outboard dinghy developed from the Boatkits 15 ft dinghy, sold as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue kit by Boatkits, part of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. It is longer, wider (1.46 m) and has much more freeboard than the smaller boat for a drier ride. A proper outboard stern takes up to 20 hp, with 5 hp the recommended minimum. Several frames were designed out, so crew can move freely between thwarts. Weight is about 85 kg, crew up to four.
Long panels need space and a helper, but the shapes stay simple. Boatkits quotes 65 to 75 hours for hull and structure and says finishing adds 1 to 1.5 times that again, so budget roughly 130 to 190 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
