Tropic 12
Designed by Mark Bowdidge
A 3.65 m estuary and river boat from Mark Bowdidge of Bowdidge Marine Designs in Australia, nearly flat in the run at 6 degrees of deadrise for mangrove creeks and sand flats. She is 1.52 m wide, tiller steered, and takes 9.9 to 15 hp with a portable tank. Bare hull weight is given as about 55 kg. The forward seating converts to a casting deck, side decks hold rods, and the seats contain sealed lockers plus foam buoyancy.
The designer says she was drawn for ease of construction by a first-time builder and to be inexpensive, in plywood with epoxy and fibreglass. The plan set is nine sheets. He gives no build time; budget 120 to 220 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Tropic 12 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
