Rock Creek Drifter
Designed by Paul Butler
A compact 14 ft drift boat that departs from the traditional shape with a wider transom and a fuller bottom panel for more stability. Its signature feature is a take apart option: the hull can be built in two nesting sections that unbolt in minutes, and the aft half on its own becomes a 9 ft pram with a wide transom for a motor. Butler notes that most builders will make it as a one piece boat, and the split can be retrofitted later.
Lightweight versions weigh under 135 lb and the smallest transom mounted trolling motor will push one. The ply and epoxy build can go ribless, with watertight bulkheads and decks doing the structural work while providing dry storage and flotation. The plans run to a 40 page booklet written for first time builders, and the boat can be set up for moderate whitewater or family use.
What building a Rock Creek Drifter actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
