Motor Canoe
Designed by Paul Butler
A 12 ft double chine motor canoe for hauling gear into the backcountry, camp cruising along a shoreline or poling through swamps. Built with lightweight materials it weighs 50 to 60 lb, so one person can cartop and launch it, and the slick graphite bottom drags easily over ramps and portages. The 45 in overall beam and wide bottom give it a lot of stability and cargo room for its length.
Two large watertight compartments fore and aft provide flotation, dry storage and seating, reached through screw out ports or a hinged hatch. With a tiller extension the operator can sit near the middle for trim, and oarlocks can go anywhere along the gunwale. Plywood panels are joined with epoxy glued doubler pads, and the plans are a 35 page booklet.
What building a Motor Canoe actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
