Candlefish 13
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 13 ft 2 in outboard fishing skiff by Sam Devlin, a compact version of his Candlefish 16 and known as the Oolichan until renamed in 2025. Chesapeake Light Craft sells plywood kits for an open layout with side benches or a bridgedeck layout with lockable stowage, and plans come from Devlin. Beam is 67.25 in, draft 6.5 in, useful load 650 lb, and it takes up to 30 hp, though far smaller motors suit it.
Stitch-and-glue, built from traditional plans. CLC grades it advanced and estimates 250 hours, with finish level the main variable. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Candlefish 13 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
