Candlefish 18

Designed by Sam Devlin

An 18 ft 5 in open outboard skiff by Sam Devlin, the largest Candlefish, built on the hull of his Pelicano 18. It is tiller steered, with high freeboard, side seats more than 7 ft long and a large amount of dry stowage and reserve buoyancy. Beam is about 89 in, draft 10.6 in, dry hull weight 1,325 lb, and power is 40 to 70 hp. Chesapeake Light Craft sells the kit packages and Devlin sells the plans.

Stitch-and-glue, from traditional plans. CLC rates it advanced and estimates 300 hours, a figure that depends heavily on finish and outfitting. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
