CLC Kayak/Canoe SailRig

Designed by Chesapeake Light Craft

A bolt-on trimaran sailing conversion for kayaks and low-sided canoes from Chesapeake Light Craft, first introduced in 1995. Two 10 ft plywood amas on crossbeams give a 10 ft overall beam, and sails of 40, 55 or 70 sq ft are offered. CLC quotes about 30 lb for the rig components and speeds up to 9 knots. It removes to leave only four eyebolts and a mast step. Kits, ama parts and plans are sold.

CLC rates it intermediate, with more cutting and fitting than its beginner kits, and estimates 80 hours. The 70 sq ft version also needs reinforcement of the host kayak. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
