Razor-Billed Auk

A 19 ft strip-planked sea kayak by Nick Schade, part of his Great Auk family and sold by Chesapeake Light Craft as a complete kit, forms kit or full-size plans. Only 20 in wide and about 46 lb, it was drawn with recreational races such as the Blackburn Challenge in mind, yet keeps enough volume for extended touring with a 350 lb payload. The page describes it as less stable than its Auk siblings and aimed at skilled paddlers.
CLC rates the build advanced: a long cedar-strip hull over forms and a strongback. CLC's estimate is 150 hours; for a first strip kayak, budget 200 to 300. Real hours from logged builds are below.
