Guillemot Double
Designed by Nick Schade
A 20 ft strip-planked tandem sea kayak by Nick Schade, sold as plans and kits by Chesapeake Light Craft. It carries the Guillemot's features into a roomy, stable double aimed at beginner to intermediate pairs. The two large cockpits sit far enough apart that the paddlers need not stay in time, there is room for a hatch between them, and the stern is drawn to take a rudder if wanted. Beam is 28 in, hull weight 60 lb and maximum payload 700 lb, enough for multi-day trips.
CLC grades it intermediate and estimates 250 hours, reflecting the amount of stripping and glassing in a 20 ft hull and deck. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Guillemot Double actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
