Guillemot "S"
Designed by Nick Schade
A 16 ft strip-planked sea kayak by Nick Schade, sold as plans and kits by Chesapeake Light Craft. It is a straight scaling-down of the Guillemot, about 6 percent smaller, for paddlers of 100 to 175 lb who are used to boats drawn for much larger people. Beam is 20 in, hull weight 40 lb and maximum payload 250 lb. The page describes it as efficient, responsive and well balanced in rough water rather than a straight tracker.
CLC grades it intermediate and estimates 150 hours, with the usual advice that some woodworking, epoxy and fiberglass experience helps. Hours recorded by builders of this design are shown below.
What building a Guillemot "S" actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
