SnowShoe 16
Designed by Platt Monfort
The SnowShoe 16 enlarges the SnowShoe 14 to carry three or four people, which makes it the family member of the series and a reasonable choice for day trips and overnight camping. It keeps the shallow vee bottom that the designer credits for the performance of the whole SnowShoe line.
Its other trick is rowing. Platt Monfort designed it to take a low cost sliding seat, turning the canoe into a light exercise shell, and he compares the change to dropping into passing gear. It is also the parent of the Snowshoe Traveler 18, which is simply this hull lengthened. Construction is skin on frame: wooden stations and stringers braced with Kevlar, covered in polyester fabric shrunk tight with heat and finished with a sealer.
What building a SnowShoe 16 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
