Runner
Designed by Nick Schade
A 17 ft strip-planked kayak from the drawing board of Nick Schade, sold by Chesapeake Light Craft as a kit or plans. At 20 in beam and about 45 lb it is meant for speed and comfort in rough water, with a full-length waterline, substantial rocker and a shallow-V stern with hard chines for control while surfing downwind. It is designed around a stern-mounted rudder, carries 350 lb, and the plans cover rubber or flush hatches, a recessed compass and a surf-ski style footboard.
CLC rates it advanced and scores it 1 out of 5 for ease of construction. CLC's estimate is 200 hours; budget 200 to 300 for a first strip build. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Runner actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
