Stitch & Glue Night Heron
Designed by Nick Schade
An 18 ft stitch-and-glue sea kayak by Nick Schade, the plywood version of his strip-built Night Heron, sold by Chesapeake Light Craft as a kit or plans. It shares the low-deck profile of the original at 20 in beam and about 41 lb, with a harder chine that makes it a little more responsive to edged turns and slightly stiffer tracking. Payload is 300 lb for paddlers of 150 to 220 lb. Many builders stain the puzzle-jointed panels in different colours.
CLC rates it intermediate, with more fitting and thinner documentation than its beginner kits; plans builders scarf the panels. CLC's estimate is 100 hours; budget 100 to 140. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Stitch & Glue Night Heron actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
