Surge Coastal Rower 1CX Rowing Boat
Designed by Chesapeake Light Craft
A 19 ft 8 in (6 m) single coastal rowing shell from Chesapeake Light Craft, which CLC says complies with the rules for the solo coastal class and is the only such boat that can be built from a kit. Developed through four prototypes, it is stitch-and-glue okoume plywood built as upper and lower halves joined like a clamshell, then glassed all over. Beam is 29.5 in, hull weight about 74 lb, and it suits rowers of 100 to 215 lb. Kits and plans start shipping in late September 2026.
CLC rates it intermediate and publishes no hours figure yet. As a rule of thumb, budget 100 to 180 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
