Amak 32
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 32 ft 4 in tugboat concept from Sam Devlin's Amak series, which honours the old Alaskan tug where he first decided on a life in wooden boats. This size displaces 18,000 lb on a 10 ft 10 in beam, draws 44 in and is drawn for an inboard diesel of 50 to 100 hp. Devlin's advice for the type is plenty of weight, a large propeller and unhurried horsepower.
The Amak 32 is offered as study plans only, with full plans to be developed with the designer for a committed builder. This is a big displacement boat with inboard power and a complete interior, suited to an experienced amateur. As a rule of thumb allow 4,000 to 6,000 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Amak 32 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
