Amak 44
Designed by Sam Devlin
The largest of Sam Devlin's Amak tugboat concepts at 43 ft 10 in on deck, with a 14 ft 6 in beam, 69 in draft and 45,000 lb displacement. Power is an inboard diesel of 200 to 350 hp. Like her smaller sisters she is named for the 1890s wooden tug Amak, the boat Devlin credits with setting him on his career.
She exists as study plans, and Devlin invites enquiries from anyone wanting the design worked up into a custom tug. A project of this size sits at the far end of amateur building and is more often a yard job. As a rough rule of thumb, allow 10,000 hours or more spread over many years. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Amak 44 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
