Dipper 17
Designed by Sam Devlin
A roughly 17 ft pilothouse pocket cruiser and fishing boat by Sam Devlin, for people who go out whatever the weather. The wheelhouse fits a small galley, heating stove, double berth and stowage, and the cockpit measures 64 in by 6 ft 2 in with seating for three. Devlin recommends a 10 to 15 hp four-stroke outboard in a well for 7 to 8 knots. At 2,460 lb she tows behind almost any vehicle. A CNC-cut hull kit is offered.
Stitch and glue in plywood and epoxy. The enclosed cabin adds joinery and windows to an otherwise simple hull, so some experience is useful. Budget 700 to 1,100 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
