17 ft Fantail Steam Launch Myf
Designed by Jay R. Benford
A 17 ft design from Jay Benford's catalog, drawn for carvel planked construction. From the pocket cruiser and tabloid yacht group. In the older usage the designer is deliberately keeping alive, a pocket cruiser is a small cruising powerboat and a tabloid yacht a small cruising sailboat. Small cruising yachts have always been the most popular boats: big enough to sleep aboard, small enough to afford and to handle single-handed.
Benford publishes a displacement of 1,160 & 1350 lb in coastal cruising trim, which is tanks full with the crew and their stores aboard rather than a shipping weight. Plans are sold to owner-builders, and full-sized patterns come with them and study plans are sold separately for anyone wanting to look before committing.
