Duckling 17
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 17 ft 3 in rowing dory by Sam Devlin for the solo oarsman, with three plywood panels a side. The hull weighs about 95 lb, light enough for one person to cartop. She is set up with folding-pattern oarlocks and 8 ft spoon oars, and a flotation seat compartment makes her unsinkable. Small Boats Monthly has reviewed the design. Plans carry imperial and metric dimensions, and a CNC-cut kit is sold.
A light stitch and glue hull with few parts, suitable for a first-time builder. Budget 70 to 130 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.

Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
